Born in Washington, DC, Mike graduated from Gonzaga High School and attended Providence College for two years before joining the Jesuit Religious Order in 1963. While a Jesuit, Mike earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University of Chicago and a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Scranton. After retiring from Montgomery County Public Schools, Mike became a Certified Public Accountant in 2003 and currently maintins his practice in Damascus, Maryland.
Mike’s first full time job was as an English and Latin teacher at the Scranton Prep School in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Mike moved to Maryland in 1971 and became a Guidance Counselor at Saint John’s High School in Washington D.C from 1971 to 1972 after which he began working as a Guidance Counselor at Montgomery Hills Junior High for the Montgomery County Public School System. Mike’s experience included Guidance and Counseling at Montgomery Hills, Redland Junior High which became a Middle School, Martin Luther King Junior High, Magruder High School and Damascus High from 1986 to 2000. Mike has been a Certified Public Accountant since 2003.
Mike has been an active member of Saint Paul Catholic Church since moving to Damascus in 1978 and has served as a lector, a member of the Church Council, and currently a member of the Prayer and Healing Team. He has been a member of the Damascus Lions Club since 1990 and served as the Foundation Treasurer and is in currently the chair of “Youth Night” for the Lions. Mike is a member of the Board of Directors of Faith Connections since 2012. Mike and his retired teacher friends formed “Thor Teams Inc”, a non-profit named after Al Thormeyer who was a beloved principal of Clearspring Elementary who died at an early age. Thor Teams has provided mentoring, tutoring and team building to Damascus youth experiencing financial hardship since 2007.
